Imphal, April 12 2018:
Even as the State Government sent an invitation for a meeting at the level of the Chief Secretary today with regard to the ongoing ceasework strike, the JAC of AMGEO and AMTUC has turned down the same invitation.
One key functionary of the JAC told The Sangai Express that the Chief Secretary's invitation was nothing but delaying tactics.
Pointing out ex-Chief Secretary RR Rashmi's statement that the question of implementing the 7th Pay depends on the Government's political decision, the functionary said the demand for 7th Pay and the ongoing cease work strike should be resolved only at the level of the Chief Minister.
The Chief Secretary's office sent an invitation to the JAC's president and secretary for a meeting at 10.30 am today.
But an emergency executive council meeting of the JAC'held at 8.30 am today decided not to hold the meeting.
There is no point in holding talks with the Government until and unless the show cause notice served to JAC general secretary Laitonjam Biken by the Imphal East DC on March 2 6 and warrants issued against many other representatives of the JAC are withdrawn.
The Fitment Committee headed by the Chief Secretary had completed their task and a report had been already submitted that the State will have to incur extra expenditure of Rs 1400 crore in implementing the 7th Pay.
As such, there is no point in holding any further talk with the Chief Secretary, said the functionary.
He also ridiculed the Government's idea of inviting JAC leaders to a meeting against whom arrest warrants have been issued.
Even though the Chief Secretary's invitation has been turned down, the JAC has appealed to the Chief Secretary to arrange a meeting between the Chief Minister and the JAC at his (Chief Secretary) office on April 19.Meanwhile, showing solidarity to the ongoing cease work strike, employees of Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies (Audit) and Imphal West District Cooperative office staged a protest demonstration at the Lamphelpat office premises of Registrar, Cooperative Societies.
They demanded immediate implementation of the 7th Pay with respect to State Government employees and pensioners.
