One jailed for trading Pangolin scales

Imphal, April 12 2018:
A man identified as Paokhanmang Guite of Chinkhanmang of Khuangmun village, Churachandpur district was sent to jail in connection with illegal trading of Pangolin scales.
He was sent to Sajiwa Central jail by an order of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal for illegally trading 1.50 kg of Pangolin scales.
It is the first wildlife case of Wangoo Lamkhai Forest Beat Office, reports our correspondent.
Pangolin (Shaphu) is a schedule animal under Wildlife Protection Acts 1972 .
The people involved in such cases are liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine, which can also extend to Rs 25,000 or with both, under Section 51(1) of the Wildlife Protection Acts, 1972 .
The next hearing for has been fixed on April 16 by the Court.
