Chandel, April 12 2018:
The Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC) and Monsang Naga Students Union (STS) after inspecting the Autonomous District Council at Monsang Pantha Chandel on April 11, have expressed shock and resentment over the dilapidated administrative condition of the Council.
In a press release issued by information and publicity secretary of STS and NSUC, the student bodies have termed the council office as isolated and in shambles, with only a handful of staff manning the office.
During the inspection, the student bodies learned that all the officials of the Council are attending office at Imphal since its inception.
The student bodies questioned why the State Government has allowed ADC Chandel to function at Imphal when almost all ADCs in the State are made to function in its own district.
Such stoic nature maintained by the State Government over the matter can be termed as apathy towards Chandel district, it added.
Members of the ADC Chandel have been seen openly attending festivals and functions in and around Chandel district, as such, the two student bodies further questioned the motive behind ADC Chandel to continue its operation from Imphal instead of paying keen attention in developing the council office in Chandel.
The populace have to travel to Imphal for every petty matter, the joint press statement added.
"It is disappointing that the State Government's directive for Government servants to go to hills is a farce in the case of Chandel district", it asserted.
The student bodies alleged that even the incumbent members of ADC Chandel engage in cutting down the big trees from the compound, which have been preserved for many decades, and take those trees to build their houses at Imphal.
When the State Govt is promoting green Manipur, the ADC Government Chandel is performing the opposite by damaging the nature for their own benefits, the bodies further alleged.
The Chif Minister, while inaugurating the council's staff quarters and office complex on November 4 last year made utmost assurance to the public that the ADC Chandel would begin to function in the district HQs.
However, the CM's assurance has remained dormant as no positive action or outcome has witnessed till date and the well-orchestrated infrastructure are lying paralysed in the district.
The student bodies have urged the State Govt to provide a positive response at the earliest and warned that they will be compelled to lock the council permanently, as the ADC at Monsang Pantha Chandel exist by namesake only.
