While bringing back body of deceased husband...Mother, son killed in road mishap

Imphal, April 12 2018:
In a tragic road accident which occurred at around 9 pm yesterday at Tendongyang along National Highway number 2 (Imphal-Dimapur road), a mother and her nine months old son were crushed to death and many were injured when the diesel auto they travelling on (while carrying the dead body of the woman's husband) collided head on with a Tata truck.
According to the family members, Huirom Rakesh s/o (L) H Moba of Sekmai Parao was admitted to RIMS hospital for treatment due some health problem but he later succumbed to his illness at the hospital itself.
His wife, Huirom ongbi Kanao (35) hired a diesel auto for taking back her late husband for performing necessary last rites at his at native village at Sekmai Parao.
When Kanao, along with the seven other family members, were taking back the body in the hired diesel auto, they met an accident with a Tata truck (bearing registration number MN-0L-9530) coming from the opposite side (from Sekmai towards Imphal) at Tendongyang at around 9 pm yesterday.
Due to the head on collision, Huirom Ongbi Kanao and her 9 month old child died on the spot while her daughter Priya and her son in law Vicky and the auto driver, Longjam Pradeep from Sugnu, were rushed to Raj Medicity for treatment.
They are presently undergoing treatment in serious conditions in the ICU.
The family members further stated that the truck driver involved in the accident has been taken into custody by Sekmai police.
The dead bodies have been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem.
Demanding punishment of the truck driver, locals blocked the National highway in front Sekmai PS for some time today morning.
Sekmai police have registered a case regarding the incident and have also seized the vehicles involved in the case.
