NSCN (IM) cadre escapes from lock-up

Imphal, July 10 2019:
An NSCN (IM) cadre identified PT Thailik Panmei (23) escaped from the lock up of Imphal Police Station today at around 2.30 am.
Massive search operation has been launched in suspected areas by Imphal West district police to nab the escaped person.
PT Thailik Panmei of Taoshang village was lodged in the lock up of Imphal Police Station from July 7 after being remanded to police custody by the Court concerned at Tamenglong.
As news of the daring escape spread, DGP LM Khaute and a team of State forensic science expert inspected the lock up today evening.
The forensic team collected samples for necessary further investigation.
The video image of the escape was found captured in the CCTV cameras installed on the road till up to Keishamthong bridge.
Soon after the incident came to light a massive search operation was launched different suspected areas by a team of Imphal West district commando personnel at Keishamthong and Moirangkhom Kabui Khul.
Speaking to The Sangai Express LM Khaute said three Sub Inspectors, one Assistant Sub Inspector and one Head Constable have been put under suspension.
Three VDF personnel deployed at Imphal Police Station have also been disengaged.
He further said intensive search is on and announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to any person who can provide information.
An inquiry committee has also been set up and the team will be led by a DIG of Manipur Police.
Inspector Bobby OC of Imphal Police station has been removed and transferred to another place, said the DGP.
PT Thailik Panmei was arrested along with one G3 Rifle, one SLR with ammunition, M-16 assault rifle with 121 live rounds of ammunition and AK 74 rifle with 27 live rounds of ammunition by a team of 23 Assam Rifles, Tamenglong Battalion during a search operation in the general area of Kekru Naga under Nungba police station at around 1.35 pm of July 6 .
