A two-day awareness programme on NCDC schemes was kick-started today in the conference hall of the Institute of Cooperative Management.
The awareness programme was being organised jointly by the Regional Director (NE), National Cooperative Development Corporation, Guwahati and the Institute of Cooperative Management, Imphal in commemoration of the United Nations declaration of 2012 as the year of cooperative movement.
The opening session of the awareness programme was attended by Cooperation and Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, Registrar of the Cooperative Societies Manipur Thaithuiling Pamei, Cooperation Commissioner P Vaiphei and TOPIC Institute, Gurgaon Chief Director SK Tucker as presidium members.
In her address, AK Mirabai, while admitting absence of big industries in the State for large scale employment, called upon the people, particularly cooperative societies to take advantage of the NCDC schemes.
While exhorting officials of the Cooperative Management Institute to work with commitment so that people can enjoy benefits of the NCDC schemes, Mirabai asked cooperative societies to nurture a healthy habit of paying back loans in time.
Any new cooperative society coming for registration should be screened properly.
They should be allowed registration only after examining their objectives and areas of interest, Mirabai asserted.
SK Tucker said that all the North Eastern States have enough potential for strong cooperative movements.
A strong cooperative movement can not only guarantee economic alleviation of the mass but also significantly improve the State's economy.
It can considerably bridge the gap between haves and have-nots, he asserted.
