Tamenglong, August 07, 2012:
Following the gregarious flowering of bamboo, locally known as "ALUN", there has been rapid increase in rodent population in some parts of Tamenglong district, where the menace of rodents has started rearing its head once again.
The rodents, which feed on the seeds of bamboo flowers, are destroying paddy and other crops like maize, brinjal and Chillies.
The villagers, whose farms have been severely affected, have drawn the attention of the Government for taking up necessary remedial measures to bail them out from the current crisis "This year we wouldn't have anything to harvest.
Please help us," said Miukamliu, one of the affected farmers in Bamgaijang.
Interestingly, the District Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department is nowhere to be seen and heard in Tamenglong for a long time.
