Imphal, August 07, 2012:
The Kabui Mothers' Association Manipur celebrated its 9th foundation at the Keishamthong community hall today.
The celebration was held with Tamenglong assembly constituency MLA Janghemlung Panmei, KAMA president Kakomlunglu Kamei and Principal Secretary (Power) LP Gonmei as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Representatives of different civil society organisations also graced the event during which speakers not only recounted participation and contribution of the Kabui community, under the aegis of KAMA, in a number of public movements but also the Association's relentless effort to preserve and promote culture and traditions of the Kabuis.
Presenting the key-note address, KAMA general secretary Ranjita Golmei highlighted that KAMA was formed on this day in 2004 to join hands with various organisations that initiated the intense campaign for total repealing of the draconian AFSPA 1958 from Manipur.
While the movement against AFSPA, sparked by the controversial death of Thangjam Manorama, marked the beginning of KAMA's formation, the Association had been lending support and taking a key role in various other movements, the secretary informed and pledged that it would continue to contribute its mite in the future as well.
In his brief address, MLA Janghemlung applauded KAMA's endeavour and contribution in protecting human rights as well as exhorting the Association to work for strengthening bond of bonho-mie between the hill-valley people.
