Disinfection drive launched

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases and casualties, the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and City Police have started a disinfection drive at several places today.
The disinfection drive took place at Khwairamband, Thangmeiband and Sagolband.
Hypochlorite solution was sprayed using a disinfection vehicle, which was launched by Chief Minister N Biren Singh recently.
IMC Mayor L Lokeshwar said the first phase of the drive was launched with the assistance of City Police to help curb and control the spread of coronavirus amid the second wave of the pandemic.
The first phase will cover Khwairamband bazar area, Thangmeiband, Sagolband and Uripok.
The drive will continue at other places, he said.
Emphasising that following the Covid SOPs of wearing face masks, social/physical distancing, hand hygiene is the best means to avoid contracting COVID-19, the Mayor said people should also support and voluntarily take Covid vaccine shots.
City Police Station Officer-in-Charge, M Sudhir said the police are strictly enforcing Covid restrictions in Imphal Greater area after it was declared a containment zone by the Government.
The police are taking up measures to save lives and help flatten the Covid infection curve, he said, appealing for cooperation from the people.
He also appealed the people to follow the Covid SOPs and guidelines as laid down by the Government.
