Aid handed over, CSOs call for sanity

Different civil society organisations of the State handed over rice, pulses, onions and other ration items to the families whose houses were vandalised in a flare-up that occurred at Gwaltabi on April 30 .
AMUCO president Mani Khuman, UCM finance secretary RK Mangisana, COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam, AMESCO president N Nando, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur president Memchoubi, AMWOVA vice-president S Romita, PALEM secretary Merajaobi, MEPWAK secretary Premita, AMCO vice-president Dr N Nipamacha were present at the occasion.
Mani Khuman while speaking at the occasion said that the incident was unfortunate and it must not be repeated in future.
Community conflicts and social conflicts are happening everywhere, however one must think twice before resorting to any action which may trigger communal flareup, he added.
Mani Khuman further said that every dispute must be settled on the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, ACOAM-Lup, Kangleipak has urged the general public to prevent occurrence of such unwanted incidents in future.
In a statement, the civil society organisation also urged the State Government to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Saying that there are many armed persons at the adjoining areas of Gwaltabi, the statement said that the State Government must carry out a verification drive to check illegal possession of arms.
The statement also urged the authority concerned to provide regular power supply to Gwaltabi and adjoining areas in view of the prevailing tense situation.
On the other hand, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur has condemned destruction of houses at Gwaltabi as a fallout of a misunderstanding that broke out during a bandh clamped by All Tribal Chiefs' Forum (ATCF) .
Urging the Government to resolve the matter at the earliest, the women's body demanded that the families whose houses were vandalised be compensated.
In another statement, Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council said that the incident happened as the State Government did not take up necessary preventive measures on time.
