Imphal, July 30 2012:
Peeved over the non payment of remunerations and non-extension of service of contractual staff in the Malaria department, workers of the Multipurpose Workers' Association have put various malaria offices under lock from today.
A scuffle ensued between the MWA members and staff of Malaria Office, Lamphelpat today when the attempt of the agitating members to picket the office was resisted by the staff including Dr A Ibochou, State Malaria Officer.
Meanwhile, speaking to news persons later, president of Multipurpose Workers Association, RK Dhaneshwor said 100 contractual staff workers were recruited in 2009 .
These 100 workers were posted in various District Malaria offices of the State.
He said the workers were not given their remunerations from October 2011 though they were utilised in other ways.
The president lamented that there has been no single response to the grievances of the workers from the authority concerned even if the matter was highlighted to the concerned officials umpteen times.
Stating that all malaria offices in the State have been closed down from today, Dhaneshwar also warned of launching various forms of agitation till their grievances are redressed.
