Imphal, May 28 2021:
The Manipuri Students' Federation-Kakching District Committee has expressed strong opposition to the running of Covid Care Centres by private hospitals at a Government School and a college in Kakching.
The student body in a press release said that it has came to to learn that two Government institutes were converted to Covid Care Centres (CCC) by private hospitals and poor people are forced to bear huge cost at a time when the State Government has announced Covid treatment cost at private hospitals to relieve the poor from excessive burden.
The student body also asked as to how Wabagai Yangbi Girls High School and Kha Manipur College were allowed to operate as Covid Care Centres or whether the Education Department has issued any approval for converting the facilities to CCC.
As per information culled through helpline service of MSF, it has come to light that these Covid Care Centres are charging patients exceptionally high fees for Covid treatment against the Government orders for the profit of few, it said.
It has been learnt that CCC run by Sun Hospital at Wabagai Yangbi Girls High School and CCC run by Ima Hospital at Kha Manipur College- Kakching have been charging hefty fees for treatment on daily basis and imposing unbearable burden on the poor people during this trying time, it said.
As such, the student body said it is all set to take stock of the CCCs and drew the attention of authorities concerned to intervene and curb the deliberate exploitation of the Covid-stricken people.
Such hefty treatment cost has created apprehension among financially weaker sections that they would not be able to bear the cost of treatment, it said.
Urging authorities concerned to take immediate action against those involved in running such centres, the student body also appealed to private hospitals to stop imposing hefty fees considering the
pandemic situation.
