Imphal, July 25 2011:
Although bore pile constructed on the eastern bank of Imphal river at Heingang Mutum Leikai and Heingang Hirom Leikai was intended to strengthen the river bank, the same work, on the contrary, has turned out to be a cause of weathering the bank.
According to a press release issued by the Heingang Educational and Social Activity Centre, the area where the bore pile was constructed remained a plain ground.
But Irrigation and Flood Control Department dug up the ground and abandoned it before completing the work.
Moreover, the pile just broke away on being touched by hand as the construction work was executed in the absurd manner without giving any thought to the qualitative aspect.
Complaints of the local people to IFCD and the concerned contractor about the most casual manner of executing the work fell into deaf ears.
In case the river bank gets breached and submerges Heingang paddy fields because of the bore pile construction in the face of the rising water level, IFCD should bear all the responsibility, the centre cautioned.
