Inefficient service coupled with sporadic technical snags at UBI Ukhrul branch is constantly annoying its customers.
A brief protest by angry customers was settled before happening any ugly confrontation between bank staff and customers today.
The incident occurred at around 11 am when the bank staff put up a notice informing closing of the bank until technical snags are rectified.
The customers who were standing in a long queue since 9:30 am in front of the bank at View Land were dismayed with the sudden notice.
When the customers queried on how long the restoration work would take.
UBI staff simply responded that until the problems on its computers are set, nothing would be possible.
The response caused a commotion that blocked traffic movements in the town for half an hour.
Talking to The Sangai Express many angry customers informed that the lackadaisical nature and attitude of the bank staff and its continued incompetency to serve the town have crossed all limits.
The customers said that today was the third consecutive day that the bank suspended its service.
Many pensioners are not able to withdraw their monthly salary and many elderly persons from far and flung villages have been staying in Ukhrul town waiting for the same, they added.
When this correspondent went inside the bank to meet the Manager, he was found absent.
The technician who came from Imphal today to rectify the snag could not tell how long it would take.
The bank remained close till the filing of this report in late afternoon with scores of customers waiting with hope.
