Imphal, September 22 2010:
Disappointed over "favouritism" on part of the officials of Indian Boxing Federation, former World Championships silver-medallist L Sarita has vowed never to play boxing in her life representing India. She has taken this extreme decision in protest against what she termed "favouritism" prevailing in Indian sports.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao from New Delhi on phone, Sarita said that after the Asian Games to be held in November, she would try to represent other country in all boxing events including the London Olympic Games.
She would announce her decisions at a press conference to be held tomorrow at 4 pm in Delhi University complex, she revealed.
She said, she had scored more points than Mary Kom in the trial bouts for Asian Games held at the SAI Centre, Bhopal.
However, the result had been kept under wraps following insistence from Mary Kom.
In the trial bouts held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi today, in two of the three rounds, she beat Mary Kom, Sarita claimed.
The refree who conducted the trial bouts also warned Mary Kom two times, Sarita said adding that Murlidharan told her after the bouts that her performance in the trial was very good.
On the other hand, only one out of four selectors who participated in the conduct of the trial bouts held on August 20 and 21 was present at today's trial.
The other three selectors had protested the way Indian Boxing Federation was going about the selection trials.
Hueiyen Lanpao tried to contact Mary Kom, who is also in New Delhi, but could not succeed.
The trial bouts were video recorded, but considering the attitude of those running the IBF, it is suspected that the video recording may be doctored, Sarita said.
