Nongthombam Kunjamohon passes away

Well known writer and a key figure of Manipuri literature Nongthombam Kunjamohon passed away at around 5.03 pm today at his Uripok Yambem Leikai residence.
Kunjamohon who occupied a prominent place in Manipuri literature, particularly in short story genre was born on November 18, 1935 .
He was conferred the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his short story compendium Elisha Amagi Mahao in 1974 .
Manipur Sahitya Parishad honoured the writer by awarding him Sahitya Ratna title this month.

Kunjamohon was also once a columnist of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition).
Apart from being a prolific writer, he was also a noted translator.
Meanwhile, Manipur Hindi Parishad, Sahitya Bhibag has condoled the demise of Nongthombam Kunjamohon.
A condolence meeting was held this evening with the Parishad's general secretary Dr S Lanchenba in the chair.
Members of Manipuri Literary Society, Imphal held a similar condolence meeting and it was presided by its president S Prahlad Sharma.
The gathering observed two minutes' silence in honour of the departed soul.
Kunjamohon is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter.
