Imphal, May 19 2014 :
The Directorate of Civil Defence which functions under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has pointed out hurdles posed by narrow roads and low electric wires to Fire Service personnel while discharging their duties.
The Chief Secretary received a letter from the Directorate of Civil Defence which pointed out the difficulties caused by narrow roads and alleys to Fire Service personnel while carrying out emergency rescue operations.
It also mentioned about the increasing number of multi-storeyed buildings being constructed in and around Imphal.
The Directorate's letter asked the State Government to take up necessary measures in order to reduce hurdles encountered by Fire Service, informed an official source.
Even though there are costly and modern equipment for fire and other emergency services, the same equipment have been rendered useless because of narrow roads and low or drooping electric wires.
The letter asked departments concerned to construct/expand roads to the standard breadth and string electric wires at a proper height.
As decided at a meeting of the 35th Standing Fire Advisory Council held in Gujarat last year, the same intimations have been conveyed to other States too, added the official.
