Imphal, May 19 2014 :
CPI candidate Dr Moirangthem Nara has alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) acted partially and did not perform its responsibility well to ensure free and fair conduct of the recently declared 16th Lok Sabha election.
He was talking to media persons at CPI state office located at Irawat Bhavan here today.
Dr Nara said that the ECI acted positively when the Congress demanded re-poll in Nagaland citing mass rigging by NPF.
But, the demand for re-poll made by CPI and BJP in the State went unheard.
The ECI, whose responsibility is to conduct free and fair elections, had failed to fulfill its responsibility in the 16th Lok Sabha election.
The ECI officials had totally failed to prevent proxy voting, and as a result the Congress managed to win both Lok Sabha seats in the State, Nara rued.
He further appealed to the public to join hands to bring a reformation in the country's electoral system.
