A felicitation function in honour of the Manipur Junior Red Cross Team who participated in the Inter-State Junior Red Cross Society cum training camp at Bhubhaneswar, Orissa recently and won prizes was hosted at the office of India Red Cross Society, MG Avenue here today.
Minister of Education, Sericulture and Transports L Jayantakumar was the chief guest of the function presided over by Secretary to the Governor of Manipur and vice president of IRCS, Manipur RK Nimai, IAS.
In all 24 units from different States of India had participated in the Inter-State Junior Red Cross Society cum training camp.
From Manipur, 15 students including 9 girls and 6 boys and three teacher counsellors from Mega Manipur School (one male and two female), participated in the event.
Felicitating the Junior Red Cross team who won three prizes including Ist prize in discipline and drama and 3rd prize in extempore speech by Shushmi Ngangom, Minister Jayanta observed that discipline is important in every field.
While proposing that similar training programme should also be organised in Manipur jointly by the State Government and IRCS, Manipur, the Minister also expressed happiness that educational institutions are being reopened in the State.
In his presidential address, RK Nimai said that Mega School, Manipur is affiliated to CBSE and its students are very talented that they can compete with students in any part of the country.
General secretary of IRCS, Manipur Prof M Lala Singh, who also spoke at the occasion, observed that young people of today are to lead the society tomorrow.
So we need to develop friendship between the youngsters of our State and other parts of India.
At the occasion, Rs 15,000 had also been presented from the side of Governor of Manipur to the IRCS Manipur in appreciation of bagging the best discipline award by its Junior team at a National level meet.
