Imphal, February 27 2016 :
Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) con-
ducted a one day consultation programme on the topic, 'Expanding
excess to reproductive rights: Using law to guarantee reproductive
and sexual health and rights' at the conference hall of Institute of
Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat today.
Speaking at the programme on the topic, 'Legal interven-
tion to strengthen the implementation and accountability for
maternal health and reproductive rights', HRLN director
Rakesh Meihoubam said that sexual and reproductive health
right must be guaranteed like right to life in the State.
However, this right exists only in papers in the State, he
said.
People do not get the entitled rights as schemes like NHM,
Janani Suraksha Karyakram, Janani Suraksha Yojna are not
properly implemented and proper facilities are provided at
PHSCs, PHCs, CHCs and district hospitals under guidelines
laid down in Indian Public Health Standard, he said.
As such, they have been taking Court's interventions on
many occasions since 2005, Rakesh said.
The consultation programme was organised to enable proper
enforcement of different welfare schemes, he said.
Lourembam Rebika Chanu and Nirvana Foundation secre-
tary Sovana Sorokhaibam also spoke at the programme as
resource persons.
