Lecturers threaten exam duty boycott

All Manipur Hills DPC Contract Basis Lecturers' Association has threatened to boycott the upcoming Class XI and XII examinations if its demand for release of 15 months pending salary amount and service extension is not honoured.
Announcing its plan of agitation at Manipur Press Club today, Association spokesperson Salam Bimolchand Singh said a total of 200 lecturers were recruited on contract basis in November 2009 for different Government higher secondary schools in Manipur.
Informing that from the date of recruitment upto October 2010 their monthly salaries were paid on a regular basis, he said despite non-payment of the monthly entitlement from November 2010 onwards members of the Association had been taking regular classes.
With numerous complaints placed before Education Department authorities failing to evoke positive response, the Association resorted to ceasework strike on January 16, 2012 to protest the Government apathy, said the spokesperson adding that the Association has proposed to the Government for extending their service period upto the 2013 academic session.
Further stating that members of the Association are discharging duties at 12 higher secondary schools located in the hill districts, he said as the teachers are being discriminated upon quality education in Manipur is bound to suffer.
Bimolchand also expressed that as their genuine demands are not being accorded importance by the State authorities the Association is left with no other option but to boycott the forthcoming class XI and XII examinations to reassert their demands.
