Temporary market shed sees light of day

The newly constructed temporary market shed at the western side of Johnstone Higher Secondary School was formally inaugurated today.
The inaugural function was held under the joint aegis of Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagat Lup and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup.
Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai and Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) Chairperson A Nimai Sharma graced the inaugural function as the presidium members.

Speaking at the occasion Dr Kh Ratankumar said it was pitiful to see women vendors setting up their stalls on the streets of Khwairamband in the aftermath of the January 4 earthquake.
Expressing delight at the completion of the temporary market shed, Dr Ratankumar said the State Government also targets to complete the construction of Tombisana market by May this year.
On the two damaged markets structures, the Minister said the State Government is awaiting a Disaster Management report to decide whether to retain or demolish the two structures.
The new temporary market, he stated, would accommodate approximately 2000 vendors.
The State Government will provide all forms of assistance to the women vendors, he added.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai appealed the women vendors to adjust at the new temporary market for some time.
She has also assured completion of the Tombisana market soon.
In the meantime, Khurai Lamlong Keithel Development Committee also inaugurated a temporary market shed at Lamlong Keithel today.
The inaugural function was graced by MLA Y Erabot and Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup president Athokpam Apabi.
MLA Y Irabot, during his speech on the occasion, assured renovation of the old market complex soon.
