Community college inaugurated

Principal Secretary of Higher and Technical Education,
SCERT, P Vaiphei inaugurated Pettigrew Community
College at Pettigrew College, Meizailung, Ukhrul, today, our
correspondent reports.
The primary objective of the community college is to
generate more employment opportunities for the youth.
Before the inauguration programme, P Vaiphei un-
veiled the Pettigrew Community College monument,
college playground extension monument and indoor sta-
dium in the presence of C Arthur, Director, University
and Higher Education, Government of Manipur, Ukhrul
DC Hrisheekesh Modak Arvind and Dr Ninghorla Zimik,
Principal, Pettigrew College, Ukhrul.
Pettigrew Community College has an intake capacity of
50 seats for two years diploma course in fashion design-
ing.
Dr Shamu Associate Professor of DM College who
is also the Nodal officer for State Community College in
his key note address highlighted the objective of commu-
nity colleges.
Community colleges, he said, are essentially
for skill development.
In community colleges, the focus
shifts from the conventional education system to skill
development.
Initially there were only two community colleges in
Manipur - one at DM College and the other at
Churachadpur.
Community college came up as an alternative means for
youths weak in theoretical studies, P Vaiphei stated.
Pettigrew Community college

with industries like KETAWN, Imphal, for training and
job orientation, Dr Ninghorla stated.
