Imphal, March 11 2016 :
Claiming hands in the shooting of Rengneisiak Aimol alias Areng at Pallel bazar yesterday, the Aimol Defence Force (ADF) has said that the incident yesterday at Pallel bazar was its 'first mission in defence of Aimol tribe's identity' since its formation in 2015 .
In a statement, commander of ADF, Rengpa Aimol said that the force was founded in 2015 with the primary objective of defending the unique identity of Aimol tribe in the face of adversaries who keep on trying to bury the identity of Aimol tribe.
The ADF also condemned in the strongest term such attempt.
The victim of yesterday's shooting, Rengneisiak Aimol alias Areng is one of the individuals responsible for attempting to wipe out Aimols' identity with their own vested interest, the statement said.
It was not an attempt to eliminate him, but just to warn him that he would be given capital punishment along with his associates if they continue their activities to destroy Aimol tribe identity, it said.
Areng is not a van driver but an active agent of the forces which try to destroy Aimol tribe identity, the ADF alleged.
It urged all communities or tribes not to interfere in the issue since it is purely an internal matter of the Aimol tribe.
It urged all concerned who are attempting to destroy Aimol identity to mend their ways or they will be awarded capital punishment.
The ADF should not be held responsible in case anything unwarranted happens.
Aimol tribe is as old as the State of Manipur, it said while appealing to all concerned organisations of the Meiteis, Nagas and Kukis to extend support to the ADF's efforts to defend and uphold the identity of Aimol tribe.
Saying that the ADF is formed basically to protect and uphold the Aimol tribe identity and not to target either the Govt of India or Govt of Manipur, the ADF appealed to the Govt to extend support to its endeavour.
