Probe demanded against the killing of Wahengbam Jayenta

JAC constituted against the killing of Wahengbam Jayenta has demanded a Judicial inquiry into the incident.
Jayenta, a resident of Kumbi Kangjeibung, was slain in a reported encounter with a combined security team of police commandos and Assam Rifles troops at Phayeng in the night of February 6. Protesting the killing, the JAC organised a public meeting with AMKIL Vice-President L Nganbi, who is also the President of Apunba Nupi Lup Bishnupur, at Kumbi Keithel today as the president.
Representatives from AMUCO, COHR, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur, ATPO, AMKIL, UKANCO, MAPI Council, KKDC, SYC and different civil society organisations of the district spoke in the meeting.
Alleging that Jayenta was killed in a fake encounter, the speakers condemned the incident and demanded for a judicial inquiry.
The meeting also decided to press the Government to punish the security personnel involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, identity of the person who was killed in a reported encounter on a road from Tulihal airport to Ningombam has been ascertained.
The man has been identified as Thongam Sana (25) of Wangoo Sandangkhong Mayai Leikai.
According to Sana's wife, Rashi, went to Bishnupur to acquire necessary documents of an Assam Rifles recruitment rally and never came back.
Rashi added that her husband told her over phone in the morning of Febraury 7 that he was in Bishnupur.
Since then, she lost contact with her husband and found his body at morgue.
Rashi claimed that her husband was an innocent farmer and a seasonal worker.
Sana is survived by his wife, a three-year old daughter a three-month old daughter.
It may be mentioned that Sana was killed in a reported encounter that took place in bewteen a combined team of troops of Imphal West, Imphal East commandos and 18 Sikh Regiment troops and suspected unknown armed UGs last night at near Ningombam.
