World AIDS Orphan Day observed '10 % of AIDS funding for children affected by HIV'

World AIDS Orphan Day was observed today at Manipur Network of Positive People with the objective to ensure that 10 percent of fund for countering AIDS should be used for the welfare of children orphaned by AIDS and HIV positive children.
The observance function organised by Manipur Network of Positive People was graced by general secretary of MNPP, Salam Pradita and its tresurer Deben as the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Project Manager of CRS, Surbala recalled that children effected by HIV had been provided nutritional, medical treatment and education supports from the global fund.
Assistance had been provided to 840 selected children from the 11 Assembly segments of Imphal East and Imphal West district.
Stating that the assistance to children was very instrumental in extending support to children, she said the same has been not availed to the children now.
Project Manager of DIC Thoubal, Pramo said there are many children whose HIV/AIDS positive status could not be revealed.
They are administered ART drug on the pretext of giving them vitamin pills.
Stating that many children with HIV/AIDS have grown up, he said it is now time to provide assistance.
Member of MNP, Sandhyarani observed that many children effected by HIV have not got the opportunity to sleep in mattress not to talk about their education.
Bogen of Recovery Alliance raised that now is the time to extend assistance to the children adding that the demand for reaching 10 percent of the fund to children is justifiable.
Pradita lamented that large amount of fund has been sanctioned for fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS while the children effected by HIV/AIDS have been sidelined.
