29 driving licence registers misplaced

The State Transport Department is all set to lodge an FIR with the police in connection with the loss of 29 registers related to issuance of driving licences by Ukhrul District Transport Office.
In connection with the loss of the registers, one Narinder Kumar filed a petition at the Manipur Information Commission (MIC) under the RTI Act.
After hearing the petition on March 27 this year, the MIC ordered an enquiry into the loss of driving licence registers from the office of DTO Ukhrul.
After completion of the enquiry, a report was submitted to the MIC.
The latest hearing of the case was held on May 30 at the MIC's office, Secretariat North Block.
Transport Deputy Director (Administration) Dr David Elangbam and DTO Ukhrul in-charge Leishangthem Johnson were present during the hearing but the appellant was absent.
It was during this hearing that the Deputy Director, Transport submitted the enquiry report in the presence of the Ukhrul DTO in-charge.
Pointing that the 29 registers of issuance of driving licences from the office of Ukhrul DTO could not be located, the enquiry report suggested prompt filing of an FIR with police so that the matter can be investigated thoroughly.
Subsequently, the MIC directed the respondents to give the FIR number in the next hearing which has been fixed at 12 noon of June 20 .
Chief Information Commissioner O Sunil further asked the SPIO/Transport Director to furnish a copy of the enquiry report to the appellant before the next round of hearing is held.
