Imphal, November 16:
Phungyar Block Congress Committee, Ukhrul district has urged the Chief Minister for taking up necessary action against the Engineers/officials and other responsible authorities in connection with fraudulent withdrawal of fund under PWD, Ukhrul division.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the Block Congress Committee pointed out that out of the 16 work programmes for which an amount of Rs 80 lakhs had been sanctioned and allegedly misappropriated with ever executing the work, 15 works are to be executed in Phungyar Assembly Constituency alone.
Due to prolong apathy of the State Government towards Phungyar A/C, the roads, culverts and drainage system of the area have been damaged so badly that traveling by vehicles has become almost impossible, the memorandum said, adding that there have been frequent occurrence of accident and many lives and properties have been lost.
When the most needed fund and the work programmes for repairing the damages were sanctioned by the Government, the same have been misappropriated by the Works Department, the memorandum rued.
The memorandum further noted that due to corruption charges levelled against the Engineers/officials of PWD Ukhrul division, the attendance of these officers in their respective postings are reported to be nil since the scam was published in the newspapers.
There absence at their place of posting has totally paralysed the office of PWD, Ukhrul at the district headquarters, the memorandum said adding that all the programme under non-lapsable poll, PMGSY and ACA, etc.
too could not be taken up as there are no officials in the offices.
In such a situation, the money sanctioned would have to be returned to the Centre, the memorandum expressed concern.
