The Joint Students Co-ordination Committee has appealed to observe Patriot's Day on August 13, the important day in the history of Manipur, at educational institutions.
Informing this to reporters at DESAM head office at Keishampat here today, Convenor of the Committee Longjam Umakanta stressed that the time has come to remember the patriots who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
During this unstable condition of the State, the love for the land has lessened and people prefer to stay idle.
"We need to recall and follow the courage and ideology of the patriots who sacri- ficed their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri war 1891", Uma- kanta said and urged schools and colleges to conduct literary events based on patriotic themes.
M Angamba, co-convenor of the Committee formed by uniting AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA and SUK observed that it would be wrong to perceive the Anglo-Manipuri war as fairy tale.He said, "We should discuss on the cause of the said war and the lesson it taught us.
It is time that we understand the global change prevent the indigenous people from extinction" .
