Imphal, August 04 2013:
Section of the Imphal-Dimapur highway which sank near Heritage village, Kohima on July 12 has been restored and heavy vehicles have started moving past the same section since this afternoon.
Apart from restoring the sunk portion, the same section has been widened to the status of a double-lane road for convenience of heavy vehicles and all other vehicles.
Levelling work on the section started on August 2 and the same work was completed this morning following which heavy vehicles started moving past the section without any support.
89 RCC (GREF) Officer Commanding P Kumar made a spot assessment of the repaired section at 3.30 pm today.
It was from the spot P Kumar told The Sangai Express "Now it is a route" .
He informed that the new section repaired anew has been double-laned.
The section would be black-topped in October for it is a new formation apart from being the rainy season.

Although the highway section is not smooth enough, all kinds of vehicles can now move past it without any external support, Kumar claimed.
Nonetheless, he appealed to all transporters to avoid the section if their vehicles are heavier than 15 tonnes for the highway section is a new formation.
Meanwhile, some Imphal bound loaded trucks which were stranded at Kohima because of the sinking of the highway have crossed the section on trial basis.
One BRTF official has also informed the Principal Secretary (Works), Government of Manipur that the highway section is ready for heavy vehicles.
Though heavy vehicles have started movement past the newly constructed highway section, the same section would be officially opened at 6 am tomorrow.
On the other hand, IOC officials have requested the CRPF authority to arrange escort parties for movement of oil tankers and LPG bullet tankers either tonight or tomorrow morning.
