Imphal, August 04 2013:
Highlighting the importance of farmers and Agriculture Department in bringing social development and peace in the society, Agricultural Labours Union Manipur (ALUM) has opined that the State Agriculture Department should be allowed to function independently without any internal or external interference.
In a statement, Secretary General of ALUM Kh Japan Chingkheinganba observed that apart from loopholes in the Agriculture Department, as the Department fails to deliver essential goods in time to the farmers, agricultural products in the state have been shrinking with each passing year.
So, it is essential to work on the present departmental anomalies together for ensuring smooth functioning of the department.
ALUM also appealed to all not to give any sort of disturbance to the farmers as well as to the Agriculture Department so that they can contribute towards betterment of the society independent by producing more food for all.
Meanwhile, expressing strong reservation over increased rate of essential commodities following the massive landslide along Imphal Dimapur National Highway, Manipur Loumi Lup has demanded the concerned authority to strictly control the rate of essential commodities especially fuel and fertilisers in the market specially during this time of crisis.
It also urged the State Government to take action against those who are selling essential commodities at higher rate.
