Imphal, August 04 2013:
A joint meeting of all political (opposition) parties held yesterday termed the UPA Government's Food Security Ordinance as a political gimmick and further decided not to allow its implementation in the State.
The meeting held at MPP office was attended by representatives of 11 political parties excepting the ruling Congress party.
The meeting was presided by BJP State unit president and former Union Minister Th Chaoba.
Speaking to media persons at JD(U) office today, the party's president M Tombi who is also convenor of the All Parties' Forum and MPP president N Sovakiran asserted that the Food Security Ordinance enacted by the Congress led UPA Government is nothing short of taking political mileage ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
If the ordinance is implemented as it is without giving any room for discussion and amendments, if necessary in the Parliament session starting from August 5, the ordinance would be taken as a product of Congress party's meanness.
If the Food Security Bill is debated in the Parliament, people would see the true colour of Congress, said Tombi and Sovakiran.
UPA Government's decision to start implementing the ordinance in 14 States ruled by Congress party smacks of a biased attitude, neglecting the other States.
The Food Security Ordinance is purely based on vote politics and is being used as an instrument of ensuring UPA-III .
The decision of the Government of Mizoram not to implement the ordinance in their State is a clear indication that the States not ruled by Congress party are against the ordinance.
The two leaders further informed that the joint meeting held yesterday resolved to oppose implementation of the ordinance in Manipur.
The decision to implement the ordinance in Manipur looks like exploring new ways of earning easy and big money given the fact that the State Government is unable to distribute PDS items to all districts of Manipur regularly.
Although the highway section which sank at Kohima is being repaired in full gear by BRTF, the State Government seems to be least bothered to repair the Nung Dolan-Barak section of Imphal-Dimapur highway which is in the most pathetic condition, Tombi and Sovakiran said.
Nonetheless, they acknowledged the Government's effort of developing Mao- Pudunamei-Kedima bypass.
At the same time, the Governments both at the Centre and the State should bring an understanding with the Government of Myanmar so that petroleum products and other commodities can be imported from the neighbouring country.
The All Parties Forum also demanded re-survey of the Indo-Myanmar border along Moreh sector together with local people before going ahead with the border fencing work.
They also demanded to halt the boundary fencing work until the boundary is re-surveyed.
