Manipuri-English e-dictionary launched : Ibobi champions Make in Manipur initiative

Apart from
inaugurating Mirror Magic
Gallery, Chief Minister O Ibobi
released three software pro-
grammes developed under the
initiative of Science and Tech-
nology Department today.
The inaugural function
held at Manipur Science Cen-
tre, Takyelpat was attended by
Chief Minister O Ibobi, So-
cial Welfare Minister AK
Mirabai and National Council
of Science Museums Director
General GS Rautela as chief
guest, president and guest of
honour respectively.
Ibobi congratulated all the
scientists of NIELIT- Imphal
Centre, Manipur Institute of
Technology and DST- Mani-
pur for working together that
has resulted in successful
development of the software
which would be very useful
to the public.
The Chief Minister also
sought cooperation of all con-
cerned to take the "Make in
Manipur" initiative forward.
Commenting on the Infin-
ity Train exhibit exhibited at
the Mirror Magic Gallery
which gives illusion of a very
long train with just one or
two bogies, Ibobi remarked
"Such a Science exhibit helps
us to realize the difference
between reality and illusion.
But, let me assure you that
the railway line from Jiribam
to Tupul is a reality and not
an illusion".
The Department of Sci-
ence and Technology is not
only working at improving the
Manipur Science Centre at
Takyelpat, Imphal, but has
also taken initiative for set-
ting up two Science Centres
in the hill districts of Ukhrul
and Churachandpur.
The
Government has also been
considering to open one Sci-
ence Centre in every District
of Manipur.
The TV Studio corner set
up inside the Mirror Magic
Gallery will help visitors un-
derstand how this technology
works, Ibobi continued while
appreciating the National
Council of Science Museums
for designing such interesting
exhibits for the people.
Two other important facili-
ties that are coming up in the
Manipur Science Centre cam-
pus are a 50-seat Digital
Planetarium and an Innova-
tion Hub.
The Department of Sci-
ence & Technology will
encourage local innovators by
providing space to display
their innovative products to
the public from next month at
the Manipur Science Centre.
The "Make in Manipur" ini-
tiative will be successful with
the participation of more In-
novators, Ibobi stated.
The Chief Minister also
appreciated herbal handmade
soaps produced by Jina Khu-
mujam of Khurai
Thoidingjam Leikai, Imphal
East District by using local
herbs like
Heiribob
,
Ning-
leishang
,
Yaingang
etc.
"In spite of many chal-
lenges, she has shown true
spirit of an enterprising inno-
vator, and we are proud that
she has produced such unique
herbal product as a woman
innovator from Manipur",
Ibobi remarked.
He announced that the
IBSD would be constructing
a Green building in the new
land allotted to it in the Tak-
yelpat institutional area.
Green building will be
environmentally responsible
and resource-efficient
throughout the building's life-
cycle.
This will also be a first
of its kind in Manipur and
should be an example to emu-
late.
"I also understand the
IBSD is an important partner
in the setting up of a Biotech-
nology Park/Incubator in
Manipur, which has been ini-
tiated by the DST, Govt, of
Manipur, in association with
the Dept of Commerce &
Industries, Govt of Manipur",
Ibobi continued.
The release of three differ-
ent software Manipur 2015-16.Principal Secretary (Economics and Statistics)
SH Khan and Principal Secretary (Cooperation) Moses Chalai
were also present at the function.
