Zeliangrong bodies to picket offices, ban national projects in Tamenglong District

Tamenglong, August 21 2015 : Zeliangrong bodies have decided to picket all Government offices and ban all ongoing national projects in Tamenglong District with effect from midnight of August 21 .

The decision followed a meeting under the aegis of Committee for Formation of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong District held at Shekinuh-Inn Tamenglong District Headquarters.

The meeting while reaffirming the resolutions adopted on August 17 public meeting, decided to launch an intense agitation across the whole District of Tamenglong until an ADC is installed in Tamenglong District.

According to Convener of the Committee for Formation of ADC Tamengong District SP Athui, volunteers will enforce the agitation which includes picketing of offices and banning of all national projects.

SP Athui sought cooperation from the public and individuals and said, "The agitation is to pressurize the State Government to cease the delaying tactics and discrimination meted out by the State Government towards the citizens of Tamenglong District" .

He said the agitation is not aimed at pressurizing the government to install a particular political party or alliance but to install a democratic government who has the numerical majority by inviting for formation ADC at the earliest.

The decision to start the agitation was taken after the State Government failed to respond to the ultimatum served on the Governor of Manipur on August 19 .

It may be mentioned that the polling for the formation of District Council Members was held on June 1 and the results were declared on June 10 June, 2015 .

After a one-month long delay, the elected members took oath of office on July 13.Subsequently, four out of six ADCs were formed on July 31 leaving behind Tamenglong and Chandel Districts, due to reasons best known only to the State Government.
