Imphal, February 16 2012:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reportedly intimated the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur to prepare for re-poll.
The ECI is likely to come out with an order on February 23 for re-poll in some polling stations of the State.
An official source informed that the ECI has already decided to conduct re-poll in all polling stations where photographs of voters taken on polling day did not match with their own images recorded ahead of the election in the electoral roll.
It is also said that fitting actions would be initiated against all those voters who impersonated others and cast proxy votes.
A video conference on re-poll was held today among ECI's Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla, ECI Secretary Anuj Jaypuriya, CEO PC Lawmkunga, Joint CEO N Prabeen and Assistant CEO K Bono.
The ECI has asked the CEO to figure out the number of security personnel as well as the number of helicopters that would be required in conducting re-poll.

District Election Officers and Returning Officers would submit their reports of photo comparison of all polling stations on February 20 to the ECI and the ECI-appointed observers.
The ECI would once again discuss the matter of re-poll with the CEO in the form of video conference on February 21 after receiving a complete report of the photo comparison work.
The three special observers appointed by the ECI would also hold a meeting with different political parties at Imphal on Feb 22 .
After this, the ECI may announce on February 23 the date of re-poll and details of the polling stations which would go to re-poll.
So far, the ECI has received complaints concerning 283 polling stations.
Most probably, re-poll may be held on March 1 or 2 .
Even if some voters cast votes more than once in the same polling booth or in different booths, the same malpractice can be easily detected with the help of a new computer software, added the official.
