Imphal, September 09 2015 :
Stranded goods laden trucks, oil tankers and LPG bullet trucks have started leaving Jiribam for Imphal from today as Barak bridge is now restored.
On the other hand, 381 empty trucks, 61 gas bullet trucks, 51 oil tankers which left Imphal for Jiribam had crossed the bridge at around 1 pm today.
It may be mentioned that the bridge broke down after a cement laden truck got stuck in the middle on August 25 .
Speaking at a press conference, Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association president H Ranjit said that with the completion of the restoration works of Barak bridge, around 70 goods laden trucks stranded nearby had crossed the bridge with security escorts of CRPF, BRO and Manipur police today.

On the other hand, Imphal-bound goods laden trucks are facing a huge inconvenience as quite a long stretch of the highway at Makru area is still in an extremely dilapidated condition, he said.
In this regard, Ranjit urged the State Government to ask BRO to immediately revamp this portion.
Around 300 goods laden trucks are still stranded between Jiribam and Leingangtabi.
All the trucks which have goods below 24 tonnes would be allowed to cross the bridge tomorrow.
H Ranjit said that the bridge still shows faulty repairing as many iron runners are uneven.
He further said that it would be convenient for the drivers if weight checkings are done at Jiribam instead of Barak bridge.
He said that no harassment must be given to drivers.
Ranjit further said that the bridge is being manned by CRPF, BRO and Manipur police personnel so that no truck above 24 tonnes crosses it.
Saying that the Government pays attention to NH-37 only when NH-2 is blocked due to bandh or landslide, Ranjit said that the Government must revamp NH-37 to stop relying on NH-2 for transportation of essential commodities and fuel.
He also urged the Government to take up all necessary steps for the safe arrival of all the goods laden trucks, LPG bullets and oil tankers to Imphal.
