Centre says ILP not State's jurisdiction

Even as pressure has been mounted on the State Government to implement the Inner Line Permit System, the Union Home Ministry is reported to have intimated to the State Government that it (Manipur) has no jurisdiction to take a decision on the matter.
The intimation of the Union Home Ministry was discussed during the second Congress Legislature Party meeting which was held today to discuss the issue of Inner Line Permit.
Responding to the earlier intimation from the State Government regarding the implementation of the ILP System, the Union Home Ministry has advised the State Government on it.

The Union Home Secretary was reported to have conveyed that the matter is to come under the Constitution and it should be dealt under a Constituional provision.
The meeting was also reported to have a discussion on ILP issue which is to be discussed under a Private membership resolution in the House on July 13.However, a concrete decision would be taken by a special Cabinet meeting to be held on July 11, the source said.
