'Social Welfare Department mocks at disabled persons'

Apart from ignoring the disabled persons for a long time by the government of Manipur, the Social Welfare Department has made a mockery by informing them to come and collect their unemployment allowances for 16 months but giving only for two months, alleged S Jashobanta, General Secretary Handicapped Foundation today.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here, Jashobanta informed that the unemployment allowances for disabled persons, who have passed Class X and XII, is Rs 100 per month and Rs 150 for graduate and above.
The department has not been providing the allowances for the past 16 months.
When the disabled persons appealed through media to provide the allowances on July 7, the department immediately responded and notified to the disabled persons to collect their allowances.
However, they were given allowances for only four months for matriculate and two months each for Class XII passed, Graduate and above.
Unhappy over the conduct of the department some disabled persons even refused to take the amount upon which the officials told them to state that in written, Jashobanta said.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and provide the allowances at the earliest.
