NPP announces first list of candidates
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, January 24 2022: After the Congress party declared its first list of candidates some days back, National People's Party (NPP) on Monday announced its first list of candidates for 20 assembly constituencies for the upcoming 2022 state assembly elections.

The list was announced by deputy chief minister and chairman of NPP Manipur election management committee Yumnam Joykumar in an event held at the badminton hall of Mayol at Iroishemba in the presence of NPP Manipur working president L Jayantakumar and NPP Youth Front national president Ratika Yumnam.

The names of candidates announced on Monday are Laitonjam Jayananda for Khurai, Lunkhopao Haokip (Chandel), N Kayisii (Tadubi), Sheikh Nurool Hassan (Kshetrigao), Muhammad Nasiruddin Khan (Keirao), Yumnam Joykumar (Uripok), L Jayantakumar (Keishamthong), Oinam Romen (Singjamei), Huidrom Vikramjit (Yaiskul), W Sumati Devi (Lamsang), K Sarat (Konthoujam), Karam Nabakishwar (Langthabal), Kh Loken (Wangoi), U Ramesh (Mayang Imphal), Irengbam Nalini (Oinam), Th Shanti (Moirang), N Diten (Heirok), Usham Manglem (Wangjing-Tentha), M Ranjit (Wabagai) and Maibam Dhanabir of Hiyanglam AC .

Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar informed that the party will issue a second list of candidates for about 20 assembly constituencies including around five ACs reserved for ST by the end of the current month.

There are several requests for membership to the party and the candidates are selected only after assessing their winning potential.

So far, none of the candidates are involved in any criminal cases except for one who is facing a false charge raised by an MLA.

He also informed that the party has no plan to form alliance in assembly constituencies where the party is not fielding candidates.

Meanwhile, asserting that no political party would be getting absolute majority in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Joykumar has said that the seat predictions made by BJP and Congress are just innocent dreams.

NPP Wangoi Unit on Monday felicitated Sagolsem Achouba, who represented Wangoi AC many times in past elections, during a function held at the residence of Wangoi AC NPP candidate Khuraijam Loken in Thiyam Leishangkhong.

Speaking on the occasion, S Achouba clarified that that were no disputes with Loken during the last by-election, as was widely reported at that time.

In his speech, deputy CM Y Joykumar recounted that NPP had a difficult time in the last by-polls owing to the government's utilisation of its machinery and financial power.

He also commented on the murder case of two people in Samurou, adding that the case is not that difficult to solve.

He then said that he would personally take part in the investigation to apprehend the killers after the elections.

Stating that the predictions made by BJP and Congress of winning 40 and 30 seats respectively are just innocent dreams, the Dy CM remarked that no political party has ever won 40 out of the 60 seats present in the state assembly election till date.

The function was also attended by NPP Manipur working president L Jayantakumar.
