6th Manipuri convention opened at Silchar

Imphal, April 25: The 6th Manipuri National Convention organised by the NESCOCOMI was opened today at the inter-State bus terminus at Silchar, Assam.

The four day convention being hosted by the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) was graced by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and NESCOCOMI president O Maniton as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

In addition, Tripura MLA L Birjit Singh, Kohima SP Sonamani, AAMSU president Th Herojit, president of the All Tripura Manipuri Students' Union N Amitav, president of the Shillong Manipuri Students' Union Th Suresh, AMSU president L Khamba, AMKIL president Ph Sakhi, Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup Momon and president of the All Manipur Muslim Women's Organisation Sitara Begum as guests of honour.

During the next three days of the convention being held under the theme, "Unite to Overcome the Challenges", academic sessions will be conducted on different issues of the Manipuris.

Cultural programmes will also be organised at night.
