Imphal, December 08 2014:
The State Cabinet has approved a solar power plant policy under which solar power plants would be installed on roof-tops for power generation and at the same time reduce the quantum of dependency on conventional energy.
An official source informed that Chief Minister O Ibobi presided a Cabinet meeting on December 1 and the meeting resolved to implement the new policy of installing solar plants on roof tops.
There is a strong likelihood of translating the policy into action shortly.
The new policy was formulated by MANIREDA at the initiative of Chief Minister O Ibobi who also holds the power portfolio.

Under this policy, 30 per cent of power consumers connected to a single electric transformer would be allowed to install solar power plants on roof tops and the power generated by these solar plants would be fed to a common grid.
These solar power plants would be fitted with meters which would indicate the quantum of power generated as well as the rate of power consumption.
As such, this meter system can also be used in billing.
Once the solar power plants are successfully installed, monthly power bills would be served to each power consumer after deducting the monetary value of the power generated at their homes.
These solar power plants can be installed on the roof tops of private houses as well as Government institutes/buildings, said the source.
Private consumers willing to install solar power plants would be given 30 per cent subsidy against the total amount required.
If it is Government institutes/buildings, the subsidy would be increased to 70 per cent.
It is reported that Manipur has the potential to generate 10,630 MW from sunlight.
