Imphal, December 14:
With the main objective of encouraging young artistes from the hill areas of Manipur and provide a platform to them to expose their talents, Folk Art and Cultural Guild (FACG), Manipur is all set to organise a special programme titled 'Wake up and Reach Out' on Dec 19 at THAU ground, Thangmeiband.
Announcing this at a press conference in Manipur Press Club here today, FACG director Momo Laishram informed that over and above the performances of the young artistes coming from different hill districts of Manipur, the programme to be divided into two sections as Folk and Modern Song would witness performances from Soulmate, the Blues band from Shillong and Warlung, the rock band from Karbi Anglong, as special guests.
Artistes or the bands selected from this programme would be given the chance to participate in the next Roots Festival of the North East region, the FACG director added.
Clarifying that the musical programme is not being organised with an eye on earning profit nor in the manner of organising other entertainment programmes, Momo said it is purely in the interest of providing a platform to the young artistes from the hill districts to expose their talent and promote the traditional folk music.
Guru Reuben Mashangva, who was also present at the occasion, observed that there is no difference or barrier between the hill and the valley people when it comes to music.
It has been for long that FACG has been planning to organise such a programme to facilitate participation of young talented artistes from the hills who do not get the opportunities of exposing their talent, Mashangva said.
