The 16th Imphal Book Fair will be opened tomorrow at Hatta Kangjeibung (Palace Compound).
During the fair, books of all kinds will be sold with a discount of 10 percent, said Chief Librarian of the State Central Library H Debendra who is also convenor of the fair.
As is the previous years, the Imphal Book Fair is being jointly organised by the State Central Library and the Raja Rammohan Roy Foundation, Kolkata.
The fair will continue till December 24, said Devendra while speaking to reporters today.
In all, 17 book firms based outside the State and 14 firms based in the State are participating in the fair, he informed.
Even as big book firms based outside the State are interested in the Imphal Book Fair, they are apprehensive to come to the State because of the prevailing law and order condition in the State, conveyed the convenor.
The inaugural function of the Imphal Book Fair will be held tomorrow.
From the next day, the fair will remain opened from 10 am till 7 pm.
The fair will also feature several programmes like book release, meet the authors, meet the Sumang Leela artistes, meet the film artistes, meet the librarian, young poets meet, children programme (painting competition) etc.
The fair will have 100 stalls of 10 feet breadth each.
Convenor H Debendra also appealed to all organisations not to call bandhs/general strikes during the book fair in the interest of the public, particularly the student community.
