State karatekas secure 14 medals at 14th All India Independence Cup

Manipur karate team bagged a total of 14 medals, including 5 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze medals, at the 14th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship 2018 which was held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from August 10 to 12, said a statement issued by Manipur Amateur Karate-Do Association (MAKA).
As per the statement, Pratik Dahal won a gold medal in the kata and a bronze medal in the kumite event in the below 7 years category while Thoihenba clinched another gold medal in the kata event of 7 yrs category.
H Piba Nganba (9yr), Md Amir Khan (senior -60 kg) and W Bebishwori Chanu (senior-61 kg) won one gold medal each in the kumite events while Aryaansh Gupta (8 yrs), Menon Ruhan (9 yrs) bagged a bronze medal each in the kata events.
Kushwaha Kartikeya also won a bronze medal in the 8 yr kumite event at the championship.
The state team were led by Sensei N Surjit Meitei as team coach and Sempai Omesh Maimom as assistant coach with Shihan Mutum Bankim Singh as referee cum delegate of the team.
The championship was organised by Seiko Kai International, India and Bharat Karate Association with the approval of Karate Association of India.
