IIS, Manipur Judo Association sign pact

As part of its special initiative to promote judo in Manipur, the Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS), JSW, has opened four centres and signed a one-year agreement with the Manipur Judo Association, on Sunday.
The agreement was signed at the Khuman Lampak Khangshang office of Manipur Judo Association between IIS president Manisha Malhotra and Manipur Judo Association president Bijoy Koijam.
Speaking on the occasion, Bijoy Koijam informed that opening of four centres in the state by IIS has enabled many judokas to compete at national and international events.
He expressed hope that the agreement signed on Sunday would further help the state produce more outstanding players.

He informed that, besides setting up another training centre at its existing location in Imphal, one centre has been opened in Thoubal district and two others at Mayang Imphal.
The agreement signed with IIS involves an amount of Rs 89,63,891, he said, adding that IIS will also provide dresses, track suits, shorts, stickers and other required materials.
Moreover, IIS will bear all expenses for players from the state while participating in competitions outside Manipur.
In addition, the institute will cover the salaries of office assistants and coaches of the centres, along with other necessary requirements, explained the president.
Bijoy Koijam further stated that IIS has extended these facilities to Manipur in recognition of the state's remarkable contribution to judo, noting that Manipur has produced several national and international judokas, including Olympians, and has dominated the sport in the country.
He said rigorous training for Manipur's judokas is being conducted at the IIS centre in Bellary, Karnataka, while state players are also receiving training under foreign coaches at the IIS centre in Georgia, which has enabled them to secure medals in the cadet category at the World Championships.
He also highlighted the need for government intervention in strengthening the Manipur Judo Association and urged for provision of a larger space so that a state-of-the-art training facility could be developed with the support of IIS.
IIS president Manisha Malhotra said that among the various sports in which Manipur has created its'mark at the international level, judo is also one of the disciplines where the state has been excelling.
In view of this, IIS decided to sign an agreement with the Manipur Judo Association and open four centres.
She assured that IIS would make every effort to further accelerate the growth of judo in the state, adding that the institute is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the Manipur Judo Association.
It is hoped that more players and coaches will be produced during the term of the agreement, she expressed.
