Zalaithang FC win CRPF-organised Khelo India Football Tournament

Khelo India Football Tournament, organized by 112 Bn CRPF Kangpokpi in collaboration with the South Changoubung Youth Club (SCYC), concluded successfully at the S Changoubung playground on Thursday, with Zalaithang Football Club clinching the championship title after an impressive 3-1 victory over Maohing Youth Club in the final match.
The five-day tournament, supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), began on November 17 with a vibrant opening ceremony that underscored the Government of India's continued efforts to nurture grassroots sporting talent across Manipur.
Sixteen dynamic teams from across the district competed in 15 action-packed knockout matches.
The closing ceremony was attended by DIG CRPF Kangpokpi, Rajesh Kumar, as chief guest.
The event was also attended by N Shokhongam Baite ADC/ ADM Kangpokpi; Abhinav, IPS, SP Kangpokpi; RK Baruah, Commandant CRPF Kangpokpi; Mangkholet Haokip, Chief Manager SBI Kangpokpi; village chiefs, youth leaders, women leaders of S Changoubung, and officials of the CRPF.
The final match commenced after an inspection by dignitaries, followed by the ceremonial kickoff by the DIG CRPF.
Zalaithang FC lifted the champions' trophy, along with Rs 25,000 in cash, medals, and certificates.
Maohing Youth Club secured the runners-up title, receiving a trophy, Rs 15,000, medals, and certificates.
Individual awards were presented to Khaigoumang of Maohing Youth Club (Top Scorer); Ngamsanglen of Zalaithang FC (Best Goalkeeper); and Kamgouthang of Zalaithang FC (Best Player of the Tournament) .
Speaking to the media after the prize distribution, DIG Rajesh Kumar said the Khelo India initiative under the aegis of the IG M&N Sector CRPF reflects a deep commitment to promoting sports across Manipur.
"This tournament provides a golden opportunity for young players to showcase their talent.
Those selected will be taken up by Khelo India sports authorities for intensive training and may eventually represent India," he stated.
Addressing Manipur's challenging socio-political environment, he added, "For the past two and a half years, Manipur has been passing through a very critical phase.
The CRPF remains fully committed to restoring peace and tranquillity, irrespective of caste or creed.
We urge all citizens to rise above differences, strengthen unity, and help build a developed India in the years to come" .
