Manipur State Indigenous Open Wrestling Championship concludes

Manipur State Indigenous Open Wrestling Championship, 2025 that had commenced on April 29 concluded at Senapati Astro Turf Ground.
The valedictory program was graced by Dr IK.
Muivah, IPS, Addl Director General of Police, Manipur as the chief guest.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr IK Muivah, IPS said wrestling is one of the most favourite games among different communities in the State.
Many communities include traditional indigenous wrestling during certain festivities that made the programme more enjoyable, he said.
Watching wrestling matches can inspire youth to take up the discipline he said while exuding confidence that developing indigenous wrestling may help produce many wrestlers who can go long distance in the National and big international event such as Olympics, he said.
He also took note of MMA fighters from the district and urged all to learn wrestling skills.
The ADGP also stressed on the need to establish indigenous sports centres in order to promote various indigenous games that people have been practising in the region.
Kevin Kampa Kui, vice president, Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) while delivering a welcome note earlier, said that the championship was organised with an aim to promote indigenous games.
He also said that SDWAM is planning to make the event bigger in the coming years.
The day saw Sholavei, son of Thaisii of Chingmai Khullen claiming the title of the 14-15 years category beating Hravi Ashe, son of Ashe of Tunggam Khullen as the 16-17 years category title went to, Robinson, son of Shuyu of Tungjoy village who defeated Adavio Shiba in the final.
In the open category (below 70 kg), Gladson, son of Karongi of Khongdei Khuman bagged the champion title defeating Lyazii, son of Row of Saranamai Khaikho as the heavy weight open category (above 70 kg) title went to Rakhovei Liimai, son of Danii Liimai of Phuba as he beat Shekho Veini, son of Shekho of Tungjoy village in the final.
The champions in the open categories walked away with Rs 1 lakh cash prizes, medals and certificates while the runners ups contented with Rs 70,000 cash prizes, medals and certificates each.
The champions in the age group categories were meanwhile feted with Rs 30,000 cash prizes, medals and certificates while the runners ups settled for cash prize of Rs 20,000 each alongside medals and certificates.
Consolation prizes were also awarded to other participants.
