Hockey: Four state players make it to Indian women's squad for Australia tour

Hockey India has named a 26-member Indian women's hockey team for the upcoming tour of Australia, scheduled from April 26 to May 4, 2025, at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
The tour will feature a five-match series, with India set to face Australia A in the opening two games, followed by three matches against the Australian senior team.
The squad includes four players from Manipur Hockey - Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Bichu Devi Kharibam, Suman Devi Thoudam, and Khaidem Shileima Chanu - highlighting the state's growing contribution to Indian hockey.

Midfield dynamo Salima Tete has been named captain, while seasoned forward Navneet Kaur will serve as vice-captain.
The tour is seen as a key preparatory event ahead of the team's European leg of the FIH Pro League 2024-25, scheduled for June.
Between the posts, experienced goalkeeper Savita and emerging talent Bichu Devi Kharibam will share duties, providing a solid foundation in defence.
India's defensive unit features a balanced mix of experience and youth, comprising Jyoti Singh, Ishika Chaudhary, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Sujata Kujur, Suman Devi Thoudam, Jyoti, Ajmina Kujur, and Sakshi Rana.
The midheld will be spearheaded by captain Salima Tete, supported by a dynamic group that includes Vaish-navi Vitthal Phalke, Neha, Sharmila Devi, Manisha Chauhan, Sunelita Toppo, Mahima Tete, Pooja Yadav, and Lalremsiami, offering creativity and stability.
Up front, India boasts a sharp and attacking forward line comprising Navneet Kaur, Deepika, Rutaja Dadaso Pisal, Mumtaz Khan, Bal-jeet Kaur, Deepika Soreng, and Beauty Dungdung.
Additionally, goalkeeper Bansari Solanki; defend ers Anjana Dundung and Lalthantluangi; midfielders Sakshi Shukla and Khaidem Shileima Chanu; and forwards Dipi Monika Toppo and Sonam, have been named as standby players.
