East Zone Sainik Schools Sport and Cultural Fest/C'ship : Sainik School Imphal assured of football titles

Imphal, July 24 2019: Hosts Sainik School Imphal's U-17 and U-14 boys football and basketball teams are certain to win the respective titles at the East Zone Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Festival/ Championship which is underway at different venues in Imphal.

Sainik School Purulia on the other hand extend their winnings way in the volleyball competition which is participated by 4 teams to ensure the event title today.

The day also saw Sainik School Imphal' Hockey team and Volleyball team suffered another narrow losses to their respective rivals.

Football competitions
Sainik School Imphal's U-17 team had yet another convincing win today as they thump Sainik School Goalpara by 4-1 goals and closed into claiming the title.

The hosts dominated both halves of the game and it was Suraj who hit a brace including the opener, in the 10th and the 14 th minute and gave a rousing start.

Sainik School Goalpara managed to pull back a goal through Arun Sonar in the 30th minute before the hosts return to its form and grabbed two more goals with the help of Bandesh (38') and Rameshchandra (62') to seal the game 4-1.Sainik School Purulia also registered a 2-1 win against Sainik School Punglwa in another match of the same competition which is featuring.

Saurav Kumar and Akash Sardar scored for the winning side in the 6th and the 67th minute respectively but an own goal conceded by their team mate Saket Kumar made it 2-1 at the end.

Meanwhile in the U-14 boys football competition participated by 4 teams, Sainik School Imphal wreaked havoc across the defence line of Sainik School Punglwa to secure an emphatic 10-0 victory and assured themselves the title.

Jemson Singh (16', 32', 56') and Sl Lal Sanglen (30', 43', 60') were the highlights of the match as they scored three goals apiece to set up the huge win while Chetankumar (2', 46') scored twice including the opener.

Rohit Singh (48') and Pankaj (60') also got their names on the scoresheet for their contributions (one goal each) to the hosts.

In another match of the U-14 boys football competition, Sainik School Goalpara rode on double hattrick by Sylvian L (25', 34', 40', 47', 50', 60+') and a goal by Sami Afrioi (8') to cruise to a 7-3 win against Sainik School East Siang.

W Wangshu (9'), Gobe Diguak (40') and Rimik (46') did the scoring for the losing side.

Basketball
The hosts also underlined their dominance in the basketball competition participated by 5 teams as they posted their third consecutive win beating Sainik School Purulia by 60-37 points today and inched closer to the title.

S Pareihanba took the centrestage in this one sided match as he stacked up 33 points alone for the Imphal side while his teammate K Tlang Thanmawia grabbed another 11 points to ensure such a clinical finish.

K Lallhazuala (8 pts), Th Ronel (4 pts), T Jasubanta (2 pts) and H Jenith Mangang (2) also scored for the winning side in this match.

The Purulia team on the other hand banked on Saurav Kumar (17 pts), Nikhil Kumar (8 pts) Krishna Murari (4 pts), Sardar Patel (3 pts) and Abhijit (5 pts) to make it a total of 37 points.

Sainik School Punglwa also eased to a 83-22 win against Sainik School Chhingchhip today in another match.

Lhousievilou Zhunyu top-scored with 36 points for the Nagaland side which was more than enough to beat the Mizoram team.

Shera Curha and Renbithung TT also managed 12 and 14 points respectively for the winning side while Ongkhambi Angh and Rajat Rathi added 8 points each and Lilamo B Shhitto secured another 5 points.

Ruathima Pachuau on the other hand secured the highest 8 points for Sainik School Chhingchhip and Lalchharliana was the second highest scorer with 6 points in his name.

Marcus M Sailo added 4 points for the same team while Lalremruat Fela and Vanlalchhanhimar posted 2 points each to make it 22 points.
Hockey
Sainik School Imphal's misery in hockey event continued as they suffered another loss, this time by 02 margin to Sainik School Punglwa.

Roman Pui scored both the goals (8', 9') for the Nagaland side which shared similar amount of penalty corners (2-2) with the hosts today.

The other match played between Sainik School Purulia and Sainik School Goalpara ended in a goalless draw.

The Goalpara side had a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners count but both sides failed to make their effort counts.
Volleyball
The first volleyball match of the day saw Sainik School Purulia extend their winning run with a straight set win against the hosts to finish title campaign on a high note.

The West Bengal team proved too strong for the State team as they eased to a 25-9, 25-20 win today.

Sainik School Goalpara also managed a straight set (25-12, 25-17) win against Sainik School Punglwa today.
