One day consultative meet on NEP held

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam maintained that opinions and views, specifically focusing on the areas that are strongly felt essential to be introduced into the education system of Manipur, need to be pointed out and contributed as suggestions in drafting the National Education Policy (NEP), 2019 for betterment of the education system of Manipur.
The Minister was speaking at the "1-Day Consultative Meet" on National Education Policy (NEP), 2019 organised by Directorate of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) at the Multipurpose Hall, SCERT today.
Stating that the last date of submitting suggestions has been extended for a month, from July 31, he stated that more than 30,000 suggestions have been entered so far.
Radheshyam stated that some of the best suggestions will be adopted in drafting the policy while urging all concerned to provide only the best and most suitable suggestions.
Maintaining that making the right choice is always difficult in life, he explained that children should be taught to make the right choice and remain relevant for future too.
The education policy, he remarked, is the guideline on how to prepare the young minds through better education and to give a room to think big on their career.
The purpose of education is to make children curious and be imaginative and creative, Radheshyam said.
He highlighted that due to excessive academic pressure and demands from parents and peer groups, the rate of suicides among students is high in the country.
He asserted that in this draft policy, certain views should be put up to address these issues and ways to help the students release such pressures for a positive change.
Joint Secretary, L Nandakumar said that by 2020, half of the India's total population will be under 26 years of age.
India being a diverse Nation, it is important to put up the suggestions on the Draft NEP, 2019 before it is finalized so that the views and suggestion, specifically made in accordance to need of the State, are furnished as part of the education system.
Director, SCERT, Dr M Meenakumari, highlighting the different parts of the Draft NEP, 2019, said that the consultative meet is focused on the school education under which - Pedagogy & Curriculum in schools, teachers and teachers education are the sub-section being discussed.
Academicians, officials of SCERT, teachers and students attended the programme while Dr Meenakumari attended as the functional president.
